Had my very first involvement of celebrating Chinese New Year. Fun. Now I know how Yee Sang taste like. I didn't really contribute in any of the dishes, except helping out. The guys were awesome and pure in the spirit of celebrating it. Let me dish out what we had; Emperor Chicken, Chinese Herbal Soup, Butter Prawn, Chili Chicken, Tang Yuen, Sweet Sour Fish, Popia, and Soymilk Agar with Lychee. A lot right? After dinner, they watched movie; A Very Harold and Kumar Christmast, but I? I slept through the movie. Aha~

Here the video of us er, dunno, starting out the night by puling thru/mixing thru the yee sang? See me, very confuse, not sure what to do~

Just when I felt like locking myself in my house and slumping in my comforter, plus maybe ranting away (to myself), er, due to the final thesis I have to submit; let just say what I felt was like crap.

Some awesome friends brought this to my house, and when I say brought, really is not 'bought', gosh, handmade dude! Love the pastel colour on top of white cream frosting. Yum.

There was also a chocolate cake , from my sister, on behalf of my family. Thanks Sheela for did it all the 'heavy lifting'

Oh crap, now I have to be thankful and turn away from the crap-ish feeling. Well, atleast I'll try my best for this one day particularly.

In all my life; specifically saying my athletic chapter of life, I had been more of a solo competing thingy. What do you expect?All I did competing was alone; 100m, hurdles, long jump , bla3~

But, what really still fresh in my mind was the sweet victory of us, yes I said us, competing in 4x100 meters. It was my school team, and if I was given a chance to do it again, I wanna live that moment. I know they hate my guts, I had been practically dragging them to follow me practice and train almost everyday. For somebody who actually consider training a norm-routine, wasn't really a big deal. So I know for you guys, its just a school meets, you were doing it for fun, of course you guys hate my guts at that time.

But deny if you want, the victory was sweet ayte? How we come close head to head to the other school, and how every baton passing between us really matters. And we did win. I'm not sure you guys heard this at the end of the line, a man came up to us and said ; " Berbaloikan training? ". Smiled and he left.

So, trust me, winning solo, isn't as sweet as winning as a team. You win for all. Victory shared, cheers flock around, high fives, pat in the back and all. I guess I'm jealous for you guys out there who actually play all around for team game. Really, it's great. And we all know that it's nice to feel like we belong somewhere, and not just alone.

Lucky for us here, the typhoon hitting Japan didn't go through Hokkaido. No big deal really.It's been raining quite heavily, not cats and dogs, but like really-really long duration of rain. It do stop for a while, but it's been continuous for 3days already. I actually like listening to the bits of rains dropping to the pavement, splash plop of it. And I've been hiding in my room for all those time, feeling under the weather I guess, and my fingers hurt, er, played too much of guitar hero.

Just wanna share a link, so awesome, and it reminds me to where I always remembered how normal raining season in KL felt like. Check this. Especially the lower one, you need to move your mouse through the pictures.

I know, I know, by now you guys already know that I love sun-flare too much. Yes, I do. I don't really know why. I love catching sun flare on my photos. Because for me flare make the photo more interesting. Flare for me is like flaw. Flaw make people who they are. Flaw define us from others. So, embrace your flaw. Because they are yours.

And, I'd also like to walk around in sunny days , chin up to the sky a bit and squinting , then watch the sun ray over my eye lashes. Never fail to make me smiles.

Laundry Trip

Last two weeks, I had companies! Well, it was my sister and her friend. And yes before everybody assuming whether she's my younger sister, let me answer once and for all; no, she's my older sister and we have gap of 4 years. I know she's much smaller than me. or, I am just giant. period.

She had been hinting me on having her pictures taken, well, this kind of pictures, as in her photoshoot and all. I was really-really busy planning their itinerary and also juggling school's work. So guess where was this? Just around the apartment of mine, specifically saying, I was waiting for my laundry at the drier. Was looking forward to take pictures at the coin laundry place, could be an interesting spot. There was and old man waiting for his laundry too, alas we headed outside for pictures.

Anyway peeps, we do not really need good spot for good pictures. Just watch out for good lighting, framing and all. Taking pictures by evening or morning is the best time for good lighting. Afternoon? A big no-no. And then of course, if you have a gedik model like my sister, it can help.

Stressed Out Solution

A friend move or dare I say,proceed to another stage of life, leaving me behind.

Shifting into laboratory, I need to attend a lot of event that really have nothing to do with me.

A friend hate me so much, talking isn't really an option.

Weather been brutal lately.Cold.Hungry.Cold.Hungry.

Snowboarding season, yet I don't think I have friends to board with.

Mum and dad away, in Thailand, I really really need to talk with her.

Mid term papers coming, and I really have no idea what the class been about.

All of that make me depress, and the solution is I turn to baking. I don't really know why. Maybe cracking the eggs can take my mind of. Or maybe the sound of whirling hand-mixer just comforting. Perhaps having taken all the measurement of flour , sugar , spices, vanilla essence and all is therapeutic. Crazy , I know. Then maybe when it all set up, just waiting for it in the oven, in the midst of bake smell air waffling through my room make me feel alive? Baking reassure me that everything is going to be all right.When I took it out from the oven, I just knew I did something right, and it all just from scratch.

This week only I baked three time already. That stressed I am. And I made a cut out poster in my kitchen that goes like this; Stressed is Desserts spelled backwards . Right. Words~

In the picture above is pumpkin muffins. I know fall already over. But I got the pumpkin for free. And talk about free pumpkin, last Halloween, Ariep got one from the pizza man, they say courtesy of them since Halloween. I kid you not. Therefore we made our first carved pumpkin. We got a bit festive.

Those time

Thought of sum it up what I miss those time.

1)The old Play Station. Every time the disc won't play right, we just spit at it a little and gave it a wipe with a cloth. Work like a charm. And why does every game title nowdays separate according to console? Not everybody could afford every game console okay.

2)Mix taping on Hitz fm. Seriously. Back then it was all boy band. 911, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, N'sync, and truth I couldn't really remember, up to the recent boy band that I really had digged was Blue, and by their time I had their album tapes ( still couldn't afford CD yet ).

3)Calling a friend by house number.The one , in my case started 03-*******, and then while it's ringing, deeply contemplating how to ask for her; "Hello, ( put a name here ) ade tak?". In the same time begging it's not her garang father or annoying brothers that pick it up.

4)Talk about phone. It's become annoying when we had our first wireless phone. I mean without the cord. Only one at that time, and when it goes missing, simple, try my sister's bed. ( Sungguh kaki gayut )

5)Mirc, or something-something chatting room. Those short term. ASL?haha. Then just about when I thought I could handle talking to a grown up, they changes the subject to more whatever-rated-version. Spoilled.

6) Myspace/Friendster. Glittering comment. Layout? We really want to be coolest one huh?

7)Putting a vcr to record mode, just because we were forced to visit some relative during those cuti sekolah special programme on tv. Dude, vcr.

8) Then the first vcd that Dad brought back home is Parents Trap. Cute. Afterwards we all struggle to memorize the handshake dance step stuff. haha

Soft Spot On Animal

A friend of mine make me subscribe to Google Reader. It's a great source. Basically it helps compile blogs/resources on what you like to read. Plus , it helps suggest what you may like to read base on what you have read and so on. A particular one that I like is ' The Big Picture ', news stories on photograph web page, obviously because it's photo related. Anyway I've been amaze at some animal related picture. I have a thing on them. Let me put this way - I have butterfly curtains clipper decoration thingy, giraffe-shape night lamp, cow pillow, owl necklace, elephant printed grocery bag, monkey soft toy and a few more. Oh, and do any leopard printed clothing count? hehe.

And since everything in HD nowdays, astro beyond and such, back home I'm the only one that always turn on to Nat Geo. Every thing look so real. Man, the fur of the grizzly bear, looks really plushy and soft, but their paws when they ripped salmon? Scary.

Stretching out of bad - yawning . Making way for a quick shower, putting on the boiler on the way. Cold water spurs - cursing , then it turns warm - thats better , then it get hotter,boiling even - what the &#$% ?! . Gave up. Head for the wardrobe, start staring and head scratching - blank , tempted to repeat last week's clothes - surely no one would notice, right ? . Get dress after making a cup of coffee - inhale ; nothing like's the smell of caffeine for a day start . Dressing up in front of the mirror - seriously, you know, you could really use a smile . Heh! . Drinking the coffee, realized it's scalding hot - cursing again . Eventually finished it, pulled daily bag, iPod, keys - got everything? Put on the boots, and by the door, exclaimed - another day, huh?

This is almost how I started my daily day. Perhaps I should change a little for another better day. They say how we start could lead to everything that comes down for the day. I had several episodes of accompanying my sister, which at first was to draw money or to pay Maxis bill around KLCC, ended up I persuaded her to make a stop at Delicious. What time you may ask? After midnight and almost 1 am, because Delicious close at 1 am. I'm serious. That's why I have extra excess coming back from Malaysia!

I was feeling creative. It's common actually if you happen to walk around Japanese stationery shop, the vibes of creativeness slash artsy comes to you. They have lots of things,even some I don't really know what they for. In the end I bought a pair of fancy printed cellophane tapes. And walla~ see what I did? To take thing up a notch, I've done it to my phone, and also my room switch plate, just to be on the funky side. Even tempted to do the whole microwave also, but the thought of the tapes might not be enough, so I gather, I should never had started.

So this tapes cost 375yen, and I got a new cover for ipod and phone. Neat huh?

Here's a big part of my life. Them. My family. This is really how we all are. Ketupat palas is a must, and with mung bean one, is Dad's favourite. And true, we all have an addiction to petai, but no, petai wasn't a part of Raya dish. - We had it cooked for our last 'berbuka'. Of course after berbuka, we fooled around, firecraker and all. One of our cousin couldn't make it, so ditto to 3G call on pagi raya! Then we pushed our luck with our big brother, really he gave us a lot, and counting there's 14 head to give, well ,sure that burned a big hole in his pocket. But look, the joy it gave us. HAHA.

Nonetheless, welcome, or I mean, here I am sharing a part of me, for you all to see. I love them all. Especially mum and dad.

Drug addicts took drug so that they can try to forget their problem for a while, and that same goes to smoker, well according to a friend, who I know smoke casually just when a big problem hit her. They know the problem wouldn't go , still for what it's worth; at that time they felt good, great even. Seems to me , drugs and cigarettes are their friends.

Now , I think I am in big problem. But seriously, neither drugs or cigarettes are my options. I could use a friend you know, REAL FRIEND. Thing is, my problem itself involving a friend, and that doesn't help. Guess what I took as a solution? I find another trouble to distract me. For real. So, it turn out like a chain, troubles/problems chain. pffftttt! I'm really not sure how long will I last.

Spotted dusts on my viewfinder, this is not good. Although it doesn't affect the picture, seriously it's annoying!

Uh Oh scary man, I mean having to do maintenance on a camera figuratively saying it's like having to do a solo operation on your own precious child. Period.

I did this just now. My heart really stopped beating for a moment when I recklessly dropped the focusing screen. Then, quickly pick it up, tweezer and all, give it a blow ( with blower of course), put the lenses back on. All set? Thought so. Turned it on, tried a test shot. Yeah seems the dust gone and everything fine. Alhamdullilah. Hope it stay that way.

Maintenance is real importance guys. Especially when you had own your camera for a quite long time and if you often do the changing lenses thing. Here check some of the links, might help.

Quick-snap in my really-really small balcony

I was in awe just now. No. I am in awe.It was 4 am.Long night for me, frantic researching for reports/assignment and also scurrying over notes for exam, decided to take a break; another dose of caffeine is crucial.( To make it thru the morning =p )

Then when I flipped over my curtain blind, I was stoke to find the sun rise. Really am. It was first, dark sky turning into blue-ish tinged , vivid blue until clear blue. Then the sun started to show bit by bit. Orange hue started to color the sky. And I really love how the ray of sun splattered on the clouds, making it redden, and somehow look like the sky is on fire. SUBHANALLAH . How much I adore HIS artwork.

First of, I don't really know how many you guys out there that will find this post useful, but heck, it's more a post of oneself reminder of my learning steps in taking better pictures. So here goes.

Things I knew for sure now how wrong I was

Shoot all the way open wide ( low f stop number ). Just because I can go to f1.8, I almost didn't bother to change those time.

I know now that, almost all f1.8 photos taken were all blur, soft and really disappointing. It can be done though, if you get the hang of it, atleast take it up a notch or two, say f2.2 . And ofcourse, if you are shooting a group of people, make sure you choose a reasonably f stop. This might help.

This one a real stupid one; we always get the impression that professional always shoot in 'manual' right? Or was it just me? Well, back then, I thought that maybe they shoot in manual focus too. So, I did religiously shoot all the way by MF, turning the focus ring , while hardly squinting through the viewfinder. I even emailed Saiful Nang, asking about this.

Silly. There's a reason why they created Auto Focus; made your work much easier. You just pick a certain focus point and hit halfway the shutter button, then you are good to go. Well atleast I learned from my mistake. And are you a back button focus shooter? BBF? I am . Go and check this out. It really help smoothing your skill on taking sharper pictures

Snuggling On Creaking Bed

It's cerekarama time, well it's the only Malaysian tv channel we get in Hatyai hotel that time. We came over to our parent's room, feet hurt from shopping, so we snuggle close on the bed. Lots of drama commentating, yet we still remained watching the drama. Maybe it's not the drama, it was nice, being there, together, on the creaking queen bed. Until one of us farted, which actually funny, then kicked out of the bed. But after a while, we still snuggle close, tighter infact. Until suddenly Dad went out of bed, and get the camera, and as a wise man he is, he knew, this would not last long.What we had that night at a low rate Hatyai hotel, will be miss, because we will out grew each other, and while it last, I know he wanted to capture it. Even the picture didn't make it, I'm sure he had taken his own memory of us together plagued in his mind. And I hope it'll last forever.

Of Ice Cream And Walking Mannequin

Yesterday, is a 'perk me up day', went to get ice cream at baskin, note to friend in Japan: there's promotion for June, triple scoop for the price of double scoop only.

Got mine in cup, because it was raining outside, I was rather stuck in the mall. Made a trip at GAP, yes with ice cream, not suppose too, then while browsing, the sale-person approach me, "かわいね。Cute!".

............

Then after a while, SHOOT! I was wearing a green polka dot t-shirt, bought there, a few days before, and what's more it's GAP KIDS.!!! Try and picture me as an immature adult GAP KIDS model, all happy gawking and wide smile tooth appearing. Don't blame me, blame the asian height.

Moral of the story: Double check what you are wearing if you are going into a clothes store. You might not want to end up like a walking mannequin of theirs.

I drove. Finally had my first drive in Japan, hear that Dad! I'm talking to you. And a perfect course, by the sea side! Brought a friend's mum touring the 'words cannot be describe' gorgeous place; Cape Kamui. Really worth the extra effort concentrating on not driving more than 70-80 km per hour drives. Seriously, here, the normal speed limit is 60km per hour. Just so you know.

A Procrastinator Project

Ive been procrastinating a while to this project of mine. But now that I had get it done, I feel real proud. Mwa-ha-ha. Woke up at 8, then the usual routine of PSP first, a round of game, then hit the web, surf around and then at 9, I had actually started it. See, I have the procrastinator trait. Heh. I called it done at 12. Three hours of pure concentration of folding, cutting, stapling and also not to mention a thirty minutes of anxiously fixing the stapler gun, because believe it or not, I broke it. Not really a surprise, things can go wrong in my hand.

Owh ya, Dad, I can do DIY stuff yeah, thanks, because I actually think that trait come form you. ^^ Now, celebratory time! Who have a fabulous love seat now, from an euuw second hand love seat? Purple in color? With polka dot? oooOOOooooHHHH so vintage-ish.

How do you really know whether that person rich or not, did u peek through their bank's statement? Do you judge by appearance? I get it all the time. When being complimented on my dress, I always fear by the following question, where did you get it? . Truths are most of my closets come from thrifting at recycle shop. There's this old man I met, looked like a Japanese, then figured out later that he's from China.This old man with enough pride admitted himself a muslim after wishing "Assalamualaikum" to me. Impressive. At the volcano sightseeing, after much explanation to us, he deliberately included that in Islam, the volcano eruption also happen by god willing. Again impressive.

By evening, the Japanese held a barbecue party, which I'm already assume; what really took place was a massive alcohol infuse party. Obviously, nothing in sight is edible for me, except ocha and juices. Then the old man approach me; " Can you let me drink beer tonight? ". I let it hang a bit, hoping he would repeat what he said. The Japanese joined in our mid-conversation, " この人はニセのイスラムだよ/ He's not really a Muslim. ", they mentioned it as if it is the most normal thing. The old man laughed sheepishly, " ニナがいるから、飲めないよ/Nina here, I would not drink".

As if asking me would make a different. Even if I granted him a permission, it would not change a thing. He was down can by can for all I know that night. I was far mad than embarrass in front of the Japanese.

Morning came, had breakfast by the same table of the old man. Halfway eating, he asked " Bismillah とか言ってた？/Have you said your prayer? ". Smiled, nodded. But all I wanted to do was punch him in the face, and seriously, why bother anyway to admit himself a Muslim ?

Gargling Tabasco Sauce

In the middle of battling with my own throat, because seriously I felt like choking it myself.For real.It hurt much, different from other sore throat, where dryness was pretty much what I felt. But this time, no dryness, absolute moisture; but hell agonizing pain when trying to chuck food down my left side of throat. Pretty much ran a search through internet, scared, because somehow it could be tonsil; and god no, I don't want it to lead to something much serious. Hospital drama is not what my interest in.

Just want to share what I thought brilliant to gargle with, I meant other than normal warm water salt mixture. Tabasco sauce. Yes, I'm not kidding. Warm water + few drops of Tabasco sauce. Sure it sting a bit when gargling, spit it out, then a reddish mucus will follow, GAK! I think those mucus are the culprit, now that they out, YAY!. Afterward, somehow a bit soothing and numb the pain. Gargle repeatedly after 15minutes or so.

Tabasco sauce huh? Not just for pizza.

Dude, I tell you the look of George Clooney face when he realize what he's dealing with is priceless.Thought it will be the usual he-the-jerk with she-who-hoping-too-much storyline, but in Up In The Air, totally 180 degree the opposite. Who know a girl can break you that much?

And I've got to say I am guilty as charge when she quoted; " ...that what modern girl do when we have a crush, we google your name..." . Pardon, but who to blame when we are all under the power of internet connection, right?

Photo Enhancing: Creamier Chocolate B&W

1721. That was what my cell flash at me, when I finally gave up rolling in back to sleep. Dunno what had me knocked out. I slept literally thru the day. Frustrated my mum over waking me up. Even my lil bro call me champion after him. Get it? Champion at sleeping in. Flattering, I guess.

Now, as I had fueled in of sleep, I'm determine to do some research on post production. Especially on black and white. I know there's tons of way to do a simple B&W pictures, there's even a simple one click solution. But, what I want is instead of black and white, I want a chocolate one, haha, well like mocha, much more creamier than dull and boring B&W.

So here's some way to convert color pictures to B&W in photoshop;

Image => Adjustments => Desaturate
Image => Adjustments => Gradient Map
Channel Mixer Layer.
In Layers Palette, fourth from the left, there is a little circle that's half black and half white. Click it and click on Channel Mixer.Then just click the the monochrome option on the bottom left.
Image => Adjustments => Hue/Saturation.
Move the Saturation slider to zero.
Fill a new layer with black and then set it to Color. After that play with Brightness/Contrast.

The picture I'm using is another friend of mine, Izz.

This is enhanced picture in lightroom. Tips: tune down the clarity slider a bit to make skin look soft. Ooohhh :)

Overrated Pictures

I might offended somebody or a lot of people by doing this post, but what the heck? Just a personal opinion though. Fine, here goes. You know you could say/think that this kind of pictures is way overrated when it fall into this category:

1) The public toilet

Mostly taken by the reflection of a glass/mirror. Gosh!pity the mirror, enough as it have to face your pretty face, now it have to suffer your so+cool+posing+face. LOL. This kind of pictures are really absurd to a point I can even figure out, which toilet it was taken in. Pavi? KLCC? and yes, we know you have the new extra cool handphone or camera. Yikes, we are so jealous.

2)From the high up self taken.

photographic wise saying;yes, the angle from high up, can be the most flattering. The well lit lighting, compliment your face all. But seriously stop it. Especially when it is only YOU in the frame and obviously,self taken since we can't see your arms in it. Enough being VAIN, but I can sure give credits if you can do self portraits with different creativity.

ps: this kind of angle, if done of groups self portaits, is a bonus, well, because the end result pictures, show how goofy and crammed in everybody in it. FUN.

3)Cafe/Coffeshop or wherever nowdays 'IN' thing is.

Well, you know. Starbucks. Coffeebean. The so famous, holding the mug purposely having the logo in view. Fine we get it, you are drinking/lepaking at the trendiest spot, hence making you the 'it' boy/girl.

4) Brandishing your uber-new pair of shades

Pardon me, I think this is just me, but I kinda not so into the idea of taking pictures with shade. Maybe because I think I look super ugly with one.

I just wanna do a quick post on a picture I worked on lately. I just have to say I am not a fan of over enhance picture, but a little here and there wouldn't hurt right?

Here is the before;

Not much right? Well, I may had bump up the exposure too high, slightly too 'white-ish'. I meant to only 'pop' his eyes a bit and yeah soften the skin. ( although I'm sure it would be more flattering on a girl ) Haha~

Here's my recipe for this enhancing:

1)Basic work on exposure: 'Level&Curve'. Give and take, play how you like it.
2)On the eye, I did base on this Pioneer Woman 's tutorial.

Ok.Hope I've encourage somebody to try it.

Racing up

You know, sometimes along the way of our battle ( specifically saying mine; tons of exam paper ), there's some thought hitting us: "What the hell am I doing?" . or some sort like that. But distracting as it seems, it never stop us, because we knew that somehow there's going to be the END. Well whatever it takes or how much energy it drained from us, we keep on pushing it and never look back.

It's like running on a marathon. Halfway through the course, sneaking and gasping for air, of course the tempting idea for stopping come inviting us, but we are no losers right? No worries about coming out first place, be a winner on our own pace, and lets finish what we started. You know when you hit the end line of the marathon, you will feel AWESOME !

I ran, jump and bend. Well, those were the time.A chapter of my life that to say, I am real proud at, and I wish it could be longer, even dreamed to present the country. LOL. That passion made me survive my-extra-strict-boarding-school-life-span. How I really missing it.

Nowdays, I bet I am not that once very flexible me. I guess I am old enough in the athletic-age-term. Hah! My last big tournament was the 2004 MSSM, 6 years way back. Gosh, how time flies by us, right?

Well, here's to reminiscence the good ol' day.

What's Next To Your Bed?

Some people say that to see a person, seek what on top of their desk.Maybe a billing of magazine subscribe, say Readers Digest or Hello or Cleo; then you'll know that person interest and so on. But for me what interest me the most is what laying next to their bed. or what on top of their bedside table. I love knowing other people bed time habits.

Want to know what next to my pillow?

Vaseline. Apply it before bed, to prevent chapped lip.
Lotion. I tend to have dry skin.
Water tumbler. I always woke up in the middle of night, thirsty.
Jane Austen collection book, which is not mine. Apparently I can't read it, it make me sleepy everytime, thus it became my number one solution if I can't sleep.
Handphone, with alarm set.
Tissue, because I'm having a runny nose with the cold. Hate it.
Hooded sweater. Before I get out of bed, I put it on, because the only warm space in my house is my bed.

Under my pillow? Nope, not the picture of a beloved boyfriend what so ever. I put scissors under my bed. Scissors.Why? My mum told me so, she said to prevent me from getting anything ghostly around me. Heh~

Hey! Guess what? I skipped class and woke up making tea to go with bread, then suddenly someone knocked on my door, and they brought cake!!!!!! and Sang to me! Woohoo, I was damn surprised...

and I think I'm not sick anymore ( Okeyh tipu, hidung beringus2 neyh, Shoooo~ ) Haha. I have to admit, I have awesome friends, and Amito, aku sayang ko. There I said it. Tall Cream cheese coating carrot cake? I couldn't say no, yet with 21 candles? Thank You!
